Advocates for cold water fisheries in the greater Mohawk Valley and Foothills of the Adirondacks
Advocates for cold water fisheries in the greater Mohawk Valley and Foothills of the Adirondacks
We banded together. Picked up shovels. Rolled rocks. Planted trees. Together we’ve built coalitions. Passed state and federal laws to protect our rivers. We will build on our legacy of accomplishment and together we will inspire a larger, younger, and more diverse array of conservation advocates.
Our Territory is Central NY, but we focus mainly on Oneida and Herkimer County.
Also referred to as the foothills of the Adirondacks, our chapter focuses on the drainage basins of the Mohawk River, Black River, and West Canada Creek.
2024 is our time to focus on kids and educating them on the importance of water and how water gets to us and where it goes, specifically in our region. We are working with 4H and Cornell Cooperative Extension to create programs centered around getting kids outside.
One of our major programs in 2024 is evaluating our local ecosystems and getting a baseline of their health. This is usually done by trying to catch wild fish and also assessing the water by looking at macroinvertebrates.
Want to help? Its easy.
Come to a meeting and get involved assessing one of the rivers or creeks that we need exploring. Who knew that science could be so cool and that fishing can be science? !
